About the artist and gallery
"Houses have always been a part of my life and are much more than just buildings to me. Behind their windows and facades there are endless stories that I project into my paintings."
Slávka Krátká is a renowned Czech painter with a significant presence abroad. She was born in 1961 and her journey began with the study of civil engineering - design. She worked in the field for a number of years and it was there that her love for buildings and especially houses, which are a strong motif in her paintings, deepened.
In addition to her profession, she was also very intensively involved in drawing. After she met her current husband, the academic painter Lubomír Krátký, more than thirty years ago, she began to study the technique of drawing and then painting in more detail with his help. She chose to work with acrylic paints.
In her artistic expression, she initially tended mainly towards cubism and abstract art. Over time, however, her works became increasingly closer to the naive style that is closest to Slávka Krátká.
Some of the artist's works attract us to seaside villages and colourful cities. Others highlight gloomy and darkened evenings full of melancholy and nostalgia. In many of the paintings you will find humorous episodes of everyday life but also imaginary stories that will put a smile on your face from ear to ear. Whatever her image, it always symbolizes her dreamy and sometimes so inviting world that you long to spend at least a few moments in it.
Slávka Krátká first presented her paintings to the public in 2015 during an exhibition in Prague and immediately experienced unprecedented success. She attracted both Czech and foreign visitors. Her works are now represented in private collections in Europe, Asia, USA, Canada and Australia.
In addition to her permanent exhibition at the Slávka Krátká Gallery, the painter exhibits her paintings annually at both domestic and international exhibitions.
